Located in
the Panti Forest Reserve about a dozen kilometres from the small
town of Kota Tinggi in Johor, Gunung Panti is just about 2 hours
drive from Singapore.
The Panti
trek is a great introduction for those new to rainforest trekking as
it's just a short 2-3 hours to the summit from the trailhead. The
descent takes about 2 hrs depending on one's fitness level.
While
trekking, sounds of the gibbons and hornbills could be heard, and
with luck, you might be able to spot them too. The forest is
secondary, having been logged out previously and regrown, but there
are still many stately trees around.
To reach
the summit area, one has to scramble up a steep rock face up the
ridgeline, and with the help of roots, ropes and assistance of your
fellow trekkers, it's within the capability of most people ... even
the young at heart ( our oldest participant for our last trek is a
young 60 years old lady ! ).
